Service quality
VOIP.com is a proven service, although the service quality seems to lag behind the other providers featured here. VOIP providers with the lowest rates often grow quickly and, as a result, have some problems with reliability.
Features
VOIP.com comes with all the usual features, like call forwarding, 3-way conference calling, call waiting, call hunting, and more.
However, voicemail is NOT included in the basic price. If you need voicemail, then the monthly rate is no longer so cheap. For a fee, you can also add toll free numbers or additional local numbers in area codes that you choose.
Manage the service online and have incoming calls forwarded to your VOIP phone, cell phone, land line, etc.
VOIP.com does NOT offer enhanced 911 (E911) dialing. They work with a subcontractor (rather than real 911 operators) to handle 911 calls. 911 dialing is not 100 percent dependable with any VOIP provider, so please consider this issue and think about having a backup plan for emergencies.
Service plans and pricing
Individual/Family Users
Get unlimited minutes to and from the USA and Canada, including Alaska and Hawaii, for a low monthly fee. You can choose to pay an annual fee and save money, but then it's harder to change providers if you have problems later.
Business Users
Business users can use the basic calliing plan. Just be sure the features meet your needs.
User experience
VOIP.com has been around long enough to prove itself, but they seem to have problems with reliability compared with other providers featured here.
Conclusions
There are other VOIP providers in my comparison that are more reliable and full featured, but VOIP.com is winning customers with their low monthly fee and overall high service quality.
